Kitchen Configurator

One of my first Unreal Engine School projects, create a configurator of your choice in either Unreal engine or Unity.


  • Design features I wanted to include

  • Change material on kitchen, walls and floor.

  • Toggle lights on / off

  • Have a sun where you can toggle day/night cycle.

  • Smooth UI


  1. I've always been interested in all types of design, which landed me a job at IKEA as a Visual Merchandiser. I've been responsible for the kitchen department a while back and then my job was to visualize and build the kitchen department where you choose your kitchen cabinets/door/handles etc. so the costumers can look and feel at everything.

    But the usual problem, costumers cant see more then one small piece of the door, worktop etc. How can we make it better?


  2. By making it in Unreal Engine! My dreams come true!

    Since the project wasn't that long I didn't want to focus on modelling up a full house & kitchen. I found the Triple X Villa on unreal marketplace and downloaded it.



  3. First problem, the kitchen is one static mesh. I exported it out as an FBX and opened in blender and separated the kitchen into, base, doors and handles.


  4. Create Blueprint, add meshes and then I created Functions to control everything neatly without having a cluster of noodles.


  5. Inside the Widget Blueprint we can then call the functions from the UI buttons.
